![]() Due to rising oil prices, some oil-importing countries are turning to unconventional-and cleaner-energy sources. Innovation and new, green technology are posing significant challenges to OPEC. As a result of the continuous volatility in oil prices, OPEC decided to reduce output to 7.2 million barrels per day as of January 2021. As a result, between May and July 2020, the organisation agreed to reduce production by 9.7 million barrels per day. Oil prices fell as a result of this, as well as a price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia. The founding nations are full members of OPEC. In July 2016, it re-joined the Organization. Gabon left the organisation in January 1995. Indonesia suspended its membership in January 2009, reactivated it in January 2016, and then suspended it again on November 30, 2016, during the 171st Meeting of the OPEC Conference. Qatar (1961), Indonesia (1962), Libya (1962), the United Arab Emirates (1967), Algeria (1969), Nigeria (1971), Ecuador (1973), Gabon (1975), Angola (2007), Equatorial Guinea (2017), and Congo (2017) joined these countries later (2018).Įcuador suspended its membership in OPEC in December 1992, rejoined in October 2007, and then decided to leave the organisation on January 1, 2020.
